Physicians, What To Look For

Most articles on fitness, when discussing routines and exercises will recommend consulting a physician first. That isn't just a means of covering the author against potential legal action. It's recognition of the fact that exercise, done improperly, can be harmful and sometimes you can't get everything you need to know with a few web searches.

A medical doctor, especially one that specializes in sports medicine - a relatively new focus - can check your overall fitness before beginning, help you define your limits and recommend specific routines to help you accomplish your chosen goals.

It is official! The Adventure Boot Camp / John Spencer Ellis Cruise is going to happen again April 4-9, 2009!
We had such an incredible turn out and response from the first cruise a couple months ago, that we feel it would be an injustice to not offer it again.

We hope to see you there!

While the United States may be the richest country in the world, it also tops the list as the most extreme when it comes to obesity per capita. Far too often ignorance is regarded as bliss when it comes to food and its effect on the body. Many people adhere to diets and eating patterns that have no positive effect on the body or fail within a few months.

It's only day two of my new routine, and I almost forgot it already!!
But - I dragged myself to the gym anyway to do the elliptical cross trainer. I meant to go at it for 30 minutes, but had no energy. I went tot he gym straight after waking up (I'm starting to shift my schedule more to my husband's - and he's on night shift.)
I wound up at least making the good ol' AF standard of 1.5 miles - and did that in 14 minutes and 1 second! (This btw, is about as good as I got with the mile and a half run while I was active duty lol - so I'm pretty pleased here)

Prior to becoming a personal trainer I was a CPA mostly working for big financial companies. The change from an office in front of a computer all the day to a gym floor lugging dumbbells was drastic, but I expected that. One aspect my new career that I did not anticipate was the number of fitness-related questions I received outside of work (no one ever used to ask me about debits and credits!). Now that I publish a fitness website, I decided to put together a list of frequently asked questions and get some top fitness and nutrition experts to answer them in video clips. Here are a few:

I am SOLD on whey protein powder!! I used to work out a lot years ago. I was about 140lbs back then (18-20 lbs more than I am now). A couple of weeks ago, I considered myself much stronger back then than now.

--I used to do 70# on the lat pulldown, 2 weeks ago, I could only do 50#, Now- 70#!!
--I used to squat 70#, 2 weeks ago, I could squat 50#, yesterday I squatted 95# !
--I used to be able to do 20 standard pushups at once. 2 weeks ago - 10 (at once), yesterday - 24!!
