We Spartans have descended from Hercules himself. Taught never to retreat, never to surrender. Taught that death in the battlefield is the greatest glory he could achieve in his life. Spartans: the finest soldiers the world has ever known. This is for all you Spartans out there. The 300 workout they used in the movie. Enjoy and Good Luck. 4-16-07:Update! Found a Video with an explanation of all the exercises.

No abs?

Seems like there's not a whole lot of ab work in this. And the guys from 300 ALL had 6 or even 8 packs.

That will definitely do it.

Submitted by whobutsb (51) on March 29, 2007 - 2:53pm.

That will definitely do it. When doing pull ups and dead lifts you are also engaging your abs. In the video diary the trainer said that they varied the exercises daily with a mix of strength training and cardio. In the video they also show the actors lifting a massive tire jumping in to it and out, then running around and doing again...nuts

I am glad someone added this. So hardcore. That one where they are on a tether and have to run is so crazy.

after watching the videos and reading the Men's Health article it looks like they did alot of different stuff daily. Just so they woudn't get burnt out or bored. Man I would kill to have a personal trainer to lead me through these exercises.

To do something like this... I wonder where they got their motivation... their drive to accomplish such a task. I wonder how many people dropped out. I wonder what separated the successful from the unsuccessful. I wonder how many of the actors will keep their body in this shape afterwards.

Questions...

Submitted by Stretch (28) on April 5, 2007 - 3:10am.

Ok couple quick questions, looks pretty intense, but how many times a week are ya s'posed to do that workout sheet? And how do ya convert kg to lbs? Cause if I'm s'posed to be deadlifting 80 kg for 50 reps...how much is that exactly? lol

If you are viewing the weight on Gimme20.com, the site can actually (or should) do the conversion for you.

Go edit your settings at:

http://www.gimme20.com/user/2926/edit

Scroll down to the bottom, and convert your workout to pounds (I noticed you have all your settings as kilograms).

Let me know if you need more help.

Kind Regards,

Ahh, there we go. I KNEW I clicked those when I was setting up my profile, but I guess I didn't lol, thank ya. And hmm...reppin 175lbs x50 on deadlift? That's insane lol. Last time I maxed (back before basketball season) I was maxin out at only about 275 lol. I'll give the workout a try next week and see how it feels, and I'll make sure to let ya'll know on here.

Submitted by whobutsb (51) on April 5, 2007 - 3:52am.

This workout came from an interview with the main actor in Men's Health. It didn't get in to specifics on how many times a week they did this or how much rest was inbetween. Plus i wouldn't be surprised they that embellished. I'm not an expert nor a trainer, so Im not too sure. If anyone is a trainer I would love to comment and help me work on this workout and make it better.

Nice

Submitted by teleporter (12) on April 5, 2007 - 7:00pm.

This thing is great, pretty intense too, I'm sore all over today. A definite improvement over what I've been doing.

For what it's worth, Gerard Butler (King Leonidas) mentioned on one of those late night talk shows - I think it was Kimmel - that they were working out 6 hours a day, nothing more specific, unfortunately.

@whobutsb - I've been working out pretty consistently two or three times a week (if time permits) for a couple of years, I'm not a trainer, and not really ripped or anything, but I found the default weights and reps to be of some of the exercises to be somewhat extreme this early into it, and not even worth attempting. I toned down both quite a bit (and am glad I did) and still found it to be the most intense workout I've done. Right now, I have it planned for twice a week with a day in between. I am considering two days a week every other week so as to change things up a bit during the off weeks.

@teleporter-Oh no doubt

Submitted by whobutsb (51) on April 5, 2007 - 7:04pm.

@teleporter-Oh no doubt those weights and reps are insane. I just put in the default what I read in the article. Its a shame that this service can't let you add the workout to your profile and then let you modify the weight/reps on your needs. Then when you actually work out have an actual weight/reps that you performed while at the gym, so if you do more or less than what your default is you can make note of that. I guess just something that needs to be added.

@whobutsb Modify Workout

Submitted by teleporter (12) on April 5, 2007 - 7:11pm.

Unless I misunderstand you, you can indeed add to your workouts and edit the goals (weight, reps, etc):

Track this workout > My workouts > Manage workout > Edit workout

You can then print out a sheet so you can fill in what you did, then come back online and submit your results.

Hope this helps.

Fitness Test

Submitted by williamgaus (7) on April 15, 2007 - 9:58am.

A number of sources I read & talked to, stated that this was used more as periodic test to gauge progress the actors and is not the entire collection of workouts they went through. Additionally it should be noted that the actors' training involved some intense caloric restrictions towards the end to get that lean.

Hey All, I started the 300

Submitted by Anewman (2) on August 2, 2007 - 1:34am.

Hey All, I started the 300 workout May 1st & it is well worth it. I think its one of the best and most effective work outs Ive seen since I was in college. I spoke to a couple of trainers at my gym about some of the specifics (days on, weight...)that wheren't covered in the article but otherwise its pretty easy to follow. Intially I tried the 6days on, 1day off twice a day split that they used in prep for the movie. All I can say is "HELL NO". After a week I couldn't move my arms, my chest was permanently on fire and I could barely pic up my 9 month old son...lol. So, I backed it down to a 5day on 2day off once a day split. Thats when it started to work good for me. I was in ok shape to start, but I hadnt worked out in a year or so(when my son was born). The gains are still coming pretty quickly and the constant variation of the exercises has kept me from plateauing. The only drawback I've come across is the length of the work out. It takes well over an hour to finish and if you add the cardio time you're looking at an hour and a half.

What other stuff about this workout do you know? I am interested in this workout and I am trying to find out what type of diet and a good regiment for this work out. If you could help me out that would be great.

300 Workout

Submitted by treeinthestreet (2) on August 17, 2007 - 1:57am.

There seems to be a large misconception that this "300 workout" floating around is a "workout routine," when in fact it was only created as a final test to measure the results of months of training that the actors and stuntmen went through to look the way that they did. This was something that was only done once, not as a regular routine, and it was published as something to just give you a taste of what they actually went through. Gym Jones was the gym used by all of the crew, and they performed a very integrative and dynamic program of power, strength and endurance training. One of the core concepts in any such program is Muscle Confusion, and just doing this one routine over and over is not going to get you the same results by any stretch of the imagination. It is an awsome workout, but it should not be considered as an entire program or routine. For those of you wanting the truth about how the cast and crew of 300 actually trained, I would suggest you go to the sight of the gym that actually trained them, and not just rely on what you read from Men's Health. Before you reply to this, go to www.gymjones.com. go to the schedule link and take a look at what these guys were actually doing.
